EPISODE 97 RECAP
This weeks action began with The Dragon Challenge, which saw the vocal Welshman Ricky Hype face the monster and a man who frequently lives up to his name, The Dominator. Perhaps feeling he needed a little more than just his wrestling ability this week, Hype looked to the crowd for some support. However his chants of Wales were largely ignored by the partisan British crowd, in fact even Welsh referee Chris Roberts looked to be distancing himself from Hype. The Welshman then extended a hand to his opponent, only to quickly withdraw it and anger a man who really needs no encouragement to hurt people. Following this the action unsurprisingly favored The Dominator who lived up to his name well, nailing lariats and backdrops and even a low blow which earned him a Public Warning. The momentum shifted slightly though as Hype came off the top rope with a double axe handle, which sent the big man down to his knees, Hype then went back to the top, this time coming off with a clothesline and following it up with a pin, which earned a two count. At this point Hype appeared to be in a position of control, at least as much as anyone is when they face The Dominator, as he continued his assault, slamming the big man and hitting a big leg drop for a two count. The momentum would quickly return to The Dominator though, as he set about once more destroying Hype, crushing him in the corner, the Welshman then made a dash for the top rope but was caught by The big man who launched him across the ring and then threw him to the outside. With Hype on the floor it appeared that the conclusion would surely favour The Dominator, and it did, although not in the sense that he might have hoped. Hype nailed him with a ring bell earning a disqualification, effectively not losing The Dragon Challenge, just the match, but in the eyes of the fans and LDN management alike The Dominator can surely be considered the Dragon Challenge victor.
Winner: The Dominator via DQ
Next up the main event, which featured not only the LDN British Champion, but the former Champion Tex Benedict, and up and comer Dave Deville. The match would be a 3 Lions Contest, the first of its kind in LDN, and would see the first man to score a pin fall the winner and new LDN Champion. With that in mind the odds were not in the Champs favour.
The action began with the least experienced man in this match, but equally one of the most technically gifted men in LDN, Dave Deville, locking up with Yorghos as Tex watched on. It didn’t take long for the arrogant American to get involved though, as he stormed over and applied a headlock creating LDN’s first triangle headlock as all three men secured their opponents heads. In the early moments of this match it appeared Deville and Yorghos were happy to wrestle each other, sending Tex to the floor each time he tried to get involved. However it didn’t take long for the American to firmly insert himself into the action, with a thumb to the eye of the Champion which he followed with a series of stomps and a flying back elbow, he then sent the champion to the floor. Deville quickly reentered seeing his chance to score a pinfall, hitting a sunset flip on Tex for a two count. However the former champion proved to be more of a challenge, hitting Deville with a back elbow, and a big back body drop and finally a clothesline in the corner. Tex then picked him up on his shoulders, perhaps going for an electric chair drop, but instead Yorghos came off the top nailing a cross body on Deville while he was atop Tex’s shoulders. With Deville now out of action Yorghos turned his attention to the American. The one on one dynamic would be short lived though as the hungry young challenger Dave Deville came charging back into the ring and nailed a neck breaker on the champion. Tex and Deville then momentarily joined forces attacking the champion, hitting a double hip toss, however the Champion quickly regained control with a double back elbow of his own, and a front face suplex on Tex. Deville then caught Yorghos with a side slam and a suplex into a pin, which Tex broke up. Tex and Deville then appeared to join forces once more as Deville grabbed the champion and held him as Tex came off the top rope, however Yorghos moved out the way leaving Deville as the recipient of the Americans kick.
The action continued as the match built to a crescendo with LDN’s first ever Tower of Doom, as Yorghos went to superplex Deville of the top, but Tex interfered lifting Yorghos, and the Champion lifting Deville from the top rope, sending all three men crashing to the mat with a super superplex, or Tower of Doom if your American, which Tex is. Deville took the worst of the move as he was at the highest point, and as a result was out of action leaving Tex and Yorghos to battle each other. Yorghos attempted his double hook bridging suplex but was blocked by the American, Tex then attempted to punch the Champion, but his arm was caught, he then took a shot with the other arm and was caught again, this time successfully with the move that earned Yorghos many wins throughout the course of his career and this time proved no different.
Winner: Yorghos via pinfall
