Vintage World of Sport Superstars [MORE]
3.55pm on a Saturday afternoon meant one thing to British Wrestling fan – “World of Sport Wrestling” with commentary by the former Disc-Jockey, Kent Walton.
World of Sport was a team operation involving nearly all 14 of the regional British ITV Stations, with the main studio with the main studio presentation coming from the "LWT" studios in London. At its peak, the average audience for the Saturday afternoon slot was 8.5 million people in Britain. In 1981, an audience of 18 million tuned in for the Big Daddy v Giant Haystacks match from Wembley.
To many older British fans the programme was famous for it's old aged Women in the audience, wielding handbags, swigging cans of beer. However, the most famous thing it was famous for was its incredible Wrestling style and larger than life Characters. Household names such as "Big Daddy", "Giant Haystacks", "Jackie Pallow", "Kid McCoy, Johnny Saint, George Kidd, Pat Roach, Kendo Nagaski and Brian Glover to name just a few could be seen every week.
What old is new again – and LDN Wrestling is proud to recognise British Wrestling’s past. In addition to the resurgence of traditional British rules, and in association with SKY TV Channel TWC FIGHT, LDN is proud to be able to show archive footage from the World of Sport as part of its programming.
In 2007, LDN Capital TV saw two specials using archived World of Sport footage featuring British legend Tony Skarlo and his match against the Dynamite Kid. Towards the end of the year, LDN featured the famous unmasking of Kendo Nagasaki.
